Kupwara girls clinch women’s cricket title in dominating style

Kupwara, Mar 29: In a spectacular display of sporting talent, Wonder Girls Lolab lifted the Kupwara Police Women’s Cricket Tournament title after defeating Girls AGS Chandigam in a gripping final at Sports Ground, DPL Kupwara, on Saturday.

The tournament, which commenced on 18th March 2025, witnessed the participation of eight women teams from across the district. The final match was an intense showdown between Girls AGS Chandigam and Wonder Girls Lolab, during which Wonder Girls Lolab emerged victorious.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara Ghulam Jeelani Wani was Chief Guest on the occasion and presided over the event and presented trophies and cash prizes to the winning and runner-up teams. While speaking on the occasion, SSP Kupwara emphasised the importance of the initiative in promoting women’s sports and creating opportunities for young female athletes. He said that Kupwara Police will certainly organise such events in the future also so that the young females can get a platform to showcase their talent.

During the prize distribution ceremony, SSP Kupwara felicitated the winners and runners-up with trophies, mementos, and cash prizes, the winners team Rs 20000/- and the runners-up team Rs 10000/-, commending their dedication, skill, and sportsmanship.
