Al-Huda Colony residents rue lack of drinking water, electricity

The residents of Al-Huda Colony in Khahipora Zachaldara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district Sunday said that they were suffering immensely due to lack of drinking water and electricity.

The residents said due to increasing population several families from Khahipora have constructed their houses in the outskirts  to combat congestion but now they were suffering due to lack of basic amenities.

“We have approached the concerned officials numerous times but to no avail,” a local resident told Greater Kashmir.

The residents have sought immediate intervention of Additional Deputy Commissioner Handwara Aziz Ahmad Rather in this regard so that the hardships being faced by them may end.

Passengers at new bus stand Kupwara rue pothole riddled roads

Kupwara new bus stand at Regipora is in pathetic condition reflecting the apathy of concerned authorities.  The huge potholes within the bus stand have been giving tough time to the commuters for two years but authorities seem to be unmoved, adding to the woes of people.

“Huge potholes within bus stand are often filled with muddy rainwater. It has become a common scene to see passengers run away to avoid being splashed with muddy water whenever vehicles come near a pothole,” Traders Federation President Kupwara Showkat Masoodi told Greater Kashmir.

The shopkeepers running business in the bus stand have demanded immediate black topping so that the miseries being faced by the general public may end.

Chamkote residents hold protest against water scarcity

Dozens of vehicles were Sunday stranded after the residents of Chamkote area of Karnah, blocked the national highway 701 to protest against the Jal Shakti Department for failing to provide them tap water for the last ten days.

The protestors, including women, assembled at the road and blocked it for almost one hour while chanting anti-department slogans.  The protesting residents said that they are facing tremendous hardships due to the non-availability of water from the past ten days.

The protestors said that the concerned department had taken them on a ride, forcing them to register their protest.  Later the protestors dispersed peacefully after they were assured of regular drinking water supply by the concerned officials.
