Jagerpora, Kaweri residents rue supply of polluted drinking water

The residents of Jagerpora and Kaweri in north Kashmir's Kupwara district have expressed strong resentment against Jal Shakti Department for failing to provide them clean water thereby exposing them to water borne diseases.

The residents said that they were getting drinking water from a spring in the Bobernag area which has not been cleaned for the last several years.

"Few years ago several persons in our village fell ill due to poor water quality, at that time the concerned department had assured us of cleaning the spring on a regular basis but nothing like this happened in the following years," said a local from Jagerpora.

"We had requested the department to cover the spring so that dirt or garbage thrown by people may not get accumulated, but some initial work in this regard was carried out and remaining work left in the midway," he added.

The residents said that almost ten thousand people are being fed water from this source but the callous approach of the department has raised alarm among people.

The residents have sought immediate intervention of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Ayushi Sudan in this regard. They have appealed to her to address the issue before the spring becomes a hotspot for various waterborne diseases.

Khumriyal-Wavoora road in dilapidated condition, people suffer

The condition of Khumriyal-Wavoora road has turned pathetic, resulting in severe hardships to the commuters.

The residents said that although the concerned department macadamized this road a few years ago, its condition has turned pathetic now. They said that the road was dotted with potholes on multiple spots due to which people are subjected to severe hardships.

The residents have appealed to the concerned authorities to intervene and address the issue forthwith.

Muqam Shah Wali residents demand road macadamisation

The residents of Muqam Shah Wali have said that they were suffering due to the pathetic condition of link roads. They have demanded macadamisation of inner link roads so that the hardships being faced by them may end.
