The residents of Nagranar, Bajard Mohalla in the Rajwar area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district accused the private telecom operators 'Jio' and 'Airtel' of poor voice calls and mobile internet service, making them suffer.

The residents said that they can hardly make calls due to the lack of mobile connectivity in their area and during emergencies, they have to walk out of their village to get mobile connectivity for making a single call.

They said that there was a dire need to install a tower in their locality so that people may get easy access to mobile phones and internet services.

The students said that they were suffering due to a lack of internet and were unable to take online classes.

They have sought immediate intervention from the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan and other concerned officials so that their grievances are redressed at the earliest.

Awathkul Meelyal residents crave for better healthcare

The residents of Awathkul Meelyal in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district complained about the lack of better healthcare facilities in their area, making them suffer.

The residents said that after the passage of several decades, successive dispensations have miserably failed to fulfill the demands of the common masses.

“Since we belong to a heavy snow-bound area and during winters it takes a toll on us whenever any medical emergency in our area arises,” a local said.

“Due to limited public transport in our area, most of the time we have to shoulder our patients on makeshift stretchers to reach the nearby health centre at Kralpora which is 8 km from Awathkul,” another local said. “Since most of the people here belong to the labour class, hiring a private cab during medical emergencies burns a hole in their pockets.”

The residents demanded that the health sub-centre present in their area be upgraded to the next level so that they could have the privilege of a doctor and their sufferings would be lessened. They appealed to Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha and Director of Health Services Kashmir Dr Mushtaq Rather to look into the matter so that the long-pending demand of the people is fulfilled.

Presence of porcupines in Malik Mohalla Kupwara creates panic

The residents of Malik Mohalla in Kupwara main town have expressed concern about the presence of porcupines in their area.

They said that for the past two weeks, porcupines have appeared in their area after sunset every day, hampering their movement.

“The presence of these animals has created panic among people due to which we remain confined to the four walls after the sunset. The children of our village are frightened due to the presence of these species,” said a local.

The residents have appealed to the Wildlife Department to take necessary steps in this regard so that people can heave a sigh of relief.
