Baramulla, Nov 18: The residents and civil society members of Tangmarg in Baramulla district have appealed to the authorities to upgrade the infrastructure of the Government Model Higher Secondary Institute in Kunzar.

During a visit by Education Minister, Sakina Masood, on Monday, a delegation from the area met with the Minister and sought the infrastructural improvements at the institution, which serves as a key educational hub in the Kunzar village of Tangmarg.

The delegation presented a list of demands including revival of the old academic block, installation of smart classroom panels, establishment of a modern computer lab, completion and furnishing of the auditorium, macadamisation of the car parking area, and fencing of the playground.

A faculty member of the school said that while the auditorium was completed some time ago, it remained non-functional due to the lack of seating arrangements.

"The auditorium is extremely important for the institution. Although it has been completed, however, owing to non availability of seating arrangements, the auditorium could not be made operational," said an official of the institution.

He said among other urgent demands, is revival of the old academic block. He added that although a new academic block exists it is insufficient to meet the demands of the institution.

"The old academic block needs some renovation. It can be used for various activities of the institution which otherwise could not be carried out in the new academic block," added the faculty member.

A local resident who was part of the delegation expressed hope that the Minister would fulfill the demands of the local residents. “This institution is vital for our village, and its infrastructural upgrade will benefit countless students,” said Farooq Ahmad, a local resident.

The residents have thanked Minister Sakina Masood for approving the introduction of the commerce stream at the school, a long-pending demand of the people of the area.
