Kulgam police arrest drug peddler, recover contraband substance

Kulgam, Oct 16: As part of the ongoing intensified crackdown on drug trafficking in Jammu and Kashmir, Kulgam Police arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substances from his possession during naka checking at Khudwani Bypass in the district, officials said on Thursday.

In a press statement, a police spokesperson said that a police party from Police Station Qaimoh set up naka checking and frisking of suspicious persons and vehicles at Khudwani Bypass. During the checking, a person—Talib Hussain Sheikh, son of Khurshid Hussain Sheikh, resident of KG Raina, Wanpoh—carrying a bag and behaving suspiciously was intercepted. Upon search, 30 grams of Charas and 500 grams of ground Cannabis-like contraband substances were recovered from his possession. He was arrested on the spot.

Regarding the incident, case with FIR No. 79/2025 U/S 8/20 of NDPS Act stands registered in the Police Station Qaimoh and investigation is in progress, he addded.

It is pertinent to mention, police said, that such drug peddlers are hellbent on destroying the life of common people particularly the young generation by spreading the drugs in the society. The general public is once again requested to cooperate with the kulgam police in the crusade against drug menace in the district.
