KU stays out of CUET for 3rd consecutive year
Srinagar, Mar 2: The University of Kashmir (KU) has this year again decided to roll out the admission process for the students in post-graduate (PG) courses without participating in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).
With the other universities enrolling students in undergraduate and PG courses on the basis of their performance in CUET for the last few years, KU for the third consecutive year has decided to offer admission to the students on the basis of the entrance conducted by the university.
Notably, other state universities have participated in CUET since 2023.
A top official of the KU said that the admission committee did not take any decision till date to participate in CUET.
“There are certain reasons why KU is not participating in CUET. As of now, CUET is at an infancy stage as it was implemented just three years ago. The first batch of students was admitted to universities and colleges in 2023,” the KU official said.
He said the students do not remain focused on admissions if they appear in the CUET held at the national level.
“So, if the university conducts its own entrance, the students remain informed about everything and they get their admissions done here,” the official said.
On whether KU was staying out of CUET because of lukewarm response from students over the past few years, the official said, “It can be also one of the reasons. Basically, it is not the issue with KU only but it is happening at national level now. The universities outside J&K have vacant seats as well. KU is not any exception.”
However, he said that KU had prepared a tentative calendar for holding PG entrance tests of the students for their admission in the PG courses offered by the university.
As per the tentative calendar, the date for submission of online forms for the admission in the courses on the 12th based entrance and admission has been fixed as April 17, 2025, while the last date for submission of the forms will be May 17, 2025.
The examination for these courses will be tentatively held between May 28 to May 31, 2025, while the admission process will be closed in June end.
Similarly, for the graduation based entrance and admission process, the submission of online application will start from June 13, 2025, while the last date for submitting the forms has been tentatively fixed as July 5, 2025.
Similarly, the entrance will be held between July 16 and 31, 2025, while the result of each subject will be declared five days after holding the entrance test.
As per the tentative calendar, the admission process for these courses will be closed in August end of this year.
