Anantnag May 22: The South Campus of the University of Kashmir, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) of Anantnag and Kulgam, on Wednesday hosted a seminar on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 — commonly known as the POSH Act.
The seminar, held on campus, was attended by faculty members, students and administrative staff. It aimed to raise awareness and promote understanding of the POSH Act, with a focus on fostering a safe and respectful workplace environment.
Fauzia Paul, secretary of DLSA Anantnag and Kulgam, served as the keynote speaker.
She delivered a comprehensive lecture on the provisions, scope and implementation of the POSH Act.
Paul emphasised the need to sensitise students and employees about their rights and responsibilities under the legislation, which plays a key role in ensuring gender justice and workplace safety.
Prof. Waseem Bari, director of South Campus, highlighted the importance of legal literacy, particularly regarding gender sensitisation and workplace conduct. He said academic institutions should lead by example in promoting inclusive and respectful environments.
The event concluded with an interactive session, where attendees shared their views and asked questions about the Act and its enforcement.
The seminar reflects the University of Kashmir’s ongoing commitment to promoting awareness of legal rights and building a campus culture based on dignity, safety and respect.
Dr. M. Zia Ul Haq Rafaqi of the Department of Education conducted the proceedings, and Dr. Noorul Amin of the same department delivered the vote of thanks.
