KU postpones exams as Govt announces 10-day summer break for colleges
Srinagar, July 12: The University of Kashmir (KU) Friday announced the postponement of all undergraduate (UG) 2nd and 4th semester examinations scheduled from July 15 and July 16, 2024.
The decision was taken following the announcement of a 10-day summer break for the Government Degree Colleges (GDCs) of Kashmir and winter zone areas of Jammu division by the Higher Education Department (HED).
“All the Government Degree Colleges falling in the Kashmir division and winter zone of Jammu division will observe summer vacation with effect from July 15 to July 24, 2024,” reads an order issued by Principal Secretary HED, Alok Kumar.
The Assistant Controller of Examination at KU in a notification issued here said that the examinations were postponed due to the announcement of summer vacation in colleges.
“Revised date sheets will be issued separately,” the notice reads.
Notably, the Directorate Colleges J&K on July 11, 2024, issued a communication to Controller Examinations of KU, University of Jammu (JU), Cluster University Srinagar (CUS) and Cluster University Jammu (CUJ) asking them to schedule the semester-end examinations as per the academic calendar in vogue.
Director Colleges J&K, Prof Sheikh Aijaz Bashir in a communication said that several colleges had submitted representations that their term-end examinations, at times, are held during vacations “which is against the uniform academic calendar in place”.
“Besides disturbing the academic calendar, the conduct of semester-end examinations is not in sync with the spirit of vacations which are declared on account of extreme cold and hot weather situations,” the communication reads.
As per the official communication, the universities have been requested to schedule the semester-end examinations as per the academic calendar in vogue.
“It will address the concerns of faculty and students alike,” the communication reads.
