Srinagar, Nov 24: To celebrate the achievements of its alumni, the Department of Commerce, University of Kashmir (KU), organised its first Commerce Alumni Meet, marking an important milestone in the department’s history.

A statement of KU issued here said that the event saw the participation of prominent figures from various fields, including literature, administration, industry, business, and academia.

The speakers included former incharge VC CUK Prof Farooq Ahmad Shah, former Dean of the School of Business Studies and Head of the Department of Commerce KU Prof Nazir Ahmad Nazir, former Head of Management Studies CUK Prof Abdul Gani, and SSP Arif Ahmad Shah.

“Our alma mater has been instrumental in our growth and now, it’s time for us to give back by staying connected,” Prof Farooq Shah said.

Guests and alumni shared their professional journeys and highlighted the pivotal role of the Department of Commerce in shaping their successful careers.

A key highlight of the event was the formation of the Commerce Alumni Association with Prof Farooq Shah as president.

“This association will not only strengthen our bond but also nurture collaboration and growth in both academic and professional spheres,” he said.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Head of the Department of Commerce, Prof Mohiuddin Sangmi stressed the importance of creating a platform where alumni can reconnect, share resources, and support each other in academic and professional pursuits.

“This platform will help us build stronger ties with alumni and contribute to the growth of the department,” he said.

The proceedings of the event were conducted by faculty, Department of Commerce KU, Syed Parvez Ahmad Shah and the event concluded with a vote of thanks by faculty, Department of Commerce KU, Sabiya Mufti.
