KU holds 100th Syndicate, Finance Committee meetings
Srinagar, Sep 29: The University of Kashmir (KU) on Monday held its 100th Syndicate and Finance Committee meetings where several important academic and administrative decisions were approved.
The meetings, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan, were attended by Shantmanu, Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department J&K, Santosh D. Vaidya, Principal Secretary, Finance Department J&K, and other members of the University’s statutory bodies.
Prof Khan briefed the members about the recent milestones of the University, including securing NAAC A accreditation, ranking 8th among State Public Universities and 34th in the overall University category in NIRF 2025. She also highlighted reforms introduced over the past year aimed at promoting student-centric initiatives, strengthening e-governance, and fostering a vibrant academic ecosystem.
During the meetings, the statutory bodies deliberated on a wide range of issues concerning the University’s academic, research and administrative functioning, including those of its affiliated and constituent colleges. Among the key approvals were the establishment of an Institute of Nursing and Paramedical Sciences at Kupwara Campus, the launch of several new programmes in line with NEP-2020, adoption of a policy for admission of international students, and measures related to faculty appointments, promotions and employee welfare. The committees also gave a go-ahead for the preparation of Perspective Plans for all satellite campuses as part of the University’s Centenary Vision 2047, which will serve as a roadmap for academic growth, research excellence and sustainable infrastructure development.
The meetings were attended by prominent academicians and administrators including Prof Devesh K. Sinha from the University of Delhi, Dr Reicha Tanwar from Kurukshetra University, Prof Rajeev Rattan from the University of Jammu, Prof Aneesa Shafi, Prof Pervez Ahmed, Prof Aejaz Mohammed Sheikh, Prof Iffat Hassan Shah, Prof Huda Galzai, Prof Naseer Iqbal and other senior officers. Registrar Prof Naseer Iqbal presented the agenda items before the committees.
Members lauded the initiatives of the University administration in ensuring student employability, employee welfare, quality assurance and transparency in governance.
In her concluding remarks, Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan thanked the Hon’ble Chancellor, Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor, and the Departments of Higher Education and Finance, Government of J&K, for their support. She expressed gratitude to the members for their valuable guidance and reiterated KU’s commitment to meritocracy, transparency and academic excellence.
