Srinagar, Oct 2: The University of Kashmir (KU) successfully concluded the ‘Sewa Parv 2025’ celebrations, which commenced on September 17 and culminated on Thursday.

The concluding programme was organised by the varsity’s Department of Students’ Welfare (DSW) in collaboration with Pran Kishor Koul Institute of Music and Fine Arts (IMFA).

The concluding programme featured a series of events at the main campus, including the reveal of a wall painting on themes of environment, youth power, and patriotism; a homage to Mahatma Gandhi; a symposium on 'Gandhian Vision of Sewa: Relevance in Today’s World'; the launch of the Sonzal-2025 poster; and a cultural programme presented by students. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor KU, Prof Nilofer Khan, said, “The activities held today highlight how art, dialogue, and collective participation can inspire a deeper understanding of service and responsibility in contemporary society. They also reinforce the relevance of Gandhi’s vision in present times.”

Various administrative officers and faculty members, including Controller of Examinations KU, Prof Majid-uz-Zaman; Dean DSW KU, Prof Pervez Ahmed; Provost Boys KU, Prof Meraj Ahmad; Principal IMFA, Habeebullah; Cultural Officer KU, Shahid Ali Khan, and wardens from different hostels, as well as students, joined the Vice Chancellor in paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi.

Controller of Examinations KU, Prof Majid Zaman, said that the celebrations provided students with a platform to meaningfully engage with Gandhi’s philosophy and to reflect on its contemporary importance.

Dean DSW KU, Prof Pervez Ahmed, noted that the events held under Sewa Parv created avenues for students to participate in activities that combined academic learning with community orientation. Principal IMFA KU, Habibullah Shah, highlighted the significance of artistic expression in carrying forward Gandhian ideals of peace, unity, and harmony.

The event was coordinated by Shahid Ali Khan, Cultural Officer, DSW KU.

A large number of students participated enthusiastically in all activities, making the concluding day a vibrant showcase of creativity and reflection.

Throughout the Sewa Parv celebrations, the university remained deeply committed to the spirit of the initiative, ensuring widespread participation and collective contribution.

Various offices and departments rendered their services with dedication, including the Central Library, Department of Home Science, Department of Social Work, NSS Wing, University Hostels, Landscape Division, Chief Proctor’s Wing, Directorate of Lifelong Learning, satellite campuses, University Model School, and several other important units of the university.
