Srinagar, Oct 27: A five-day workshop on Hydrological Modelling commenced at the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Kashmir (KU) today, aimed at enhancing the technical skills of students and research scholars in understanding hydrological processes under changing climatic conditions.

Organised by the varsity's School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, the workshop features expert sessions by Dr A.K. Lohani, former Scientist-G and Head, Surface Water Hydrology Division, National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee.

Vice-Chancellor, KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, in her message said, “Workshops like these bridge the gap between academic learning and field-based applications, equipping our scholars with the necessary technical expertise to address the challenges of water resource management in a changing climate.”

Dean Academic Affairs KU, Prof. Shariefuddin Pirzada, said that the University encourages such skill-based training programmes that integrate scientific research with practical problem-solving to support sustainable development goals.

Dr. Lohani will deliver a series of lectures and hands-on training sessions on advanced hydrological models and analytical tools used for simulating water flow, predicting floods, and managing catchment hydrology.

The workshop is being attended by faculty members and scholars from various departments, and is expected to strengthen interdisciplinary research and build capacity in hydrological analysis and modelling for the region.
