Srinagar, Aug 7: A high-level delegation of the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to highlight key developmental and trade-related concerns of Shopian district.

The delegation was led by KTMF senior functionary Qazi Tauseef and included office bearers of the Traders Federation Shopian, a key constituent of KTMF. Members of the delegation included Mushtaq Ahmad Nakashi (President), Riyaz Ahmad Mantoo (Chairman), and senior traders Mohammad Usman, Mohammad Shafi Tak, Parvez Ahmad Mantoo, Mohammad Usman Turray, Parvez Ahmad Beigh, Mukhtar Ahmad Lone, and Suhail Bhat.

During the meeting, the delegation raised several pressing issues impacting the business community in Shopian.

These included poor road connectivity — particularly the deteriorating condition of the Mughal Road and internal link roads — which has severely hampered the movement of goods and people. They urged the Chief Minister for immediately intervene in repairing, widening, and upgrading these roads to support both trade and tourism.

The delegation also underscored the urgent need for a comprehensive business revival plan in view of the pandemic and conflict-related disruptions that have affected the region’s commercial ecosystem. Frequent power outages, which disrupt digital payment systems and logistics, were also highlighted as a major concern.

Members expressed disappointment over Shopian’s continued neglect in various government schemes and developmental initiatives, despite its economic significance in agriculture and trade. They called for increased government focus and tangible support to unlock the district’s full potential.
