KTA urges Govt to prioritise all weather connectivity to Kashmir
Srinagar, Mar 2: The Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA) has highlighted the pressing need for establishing reliable all-weather connectivity in the Valley to bolster economic resilience.
The trade body has drawn attention to the frequent blockages on the vital Srinagar-Jammu national highway due to adverse weather conditions, especially during the winter months, which have severely impacted the region's economic activities.
In a statement, KTA President Aijaz Shahdhar emphasised that the Srinagar-Jammu highway is a lifeline for Kashmir's economy, and its disruptions pose significant challenges to the smooth flow of goods and services, ultimately undermining the region's economic stability.
Shahdhar underscored that the current situation not only hampers daily transportation but also adversely affects key sectors like businesses, agriculture, and tourism, which are pivotal for Kashmir's economic growth. He cited increased transportation costs, delays in delivery schedules, and a general economic slowdown as consequences of the highway blockages.
The KTA President stressed that the unreliable connectivity on the Srinagar-Jammu highway is a constant obstacle for local businesses, leading to financial losses and hindering overall economic development. He urged the authorities to invest in and expedite the establishment of all-weather infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted connectivity throughout the year.
