KTA calls for power amnesty for commercial consumers

Srinagar, Dec 13: The Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA) has urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to extend an amnesty scheme for commercial power consumers, mirroring the relief already provided to domestic consumers.

In a statement released today, KTA President Aijaz Shahdhar said that there is a critical need for financial relief for commercial establishments that have struggled in recent years. “The govt has already extended power amnesty for domestic consumers, and we are seeking the same consideration for commercial consumers,” Shahdhar said.

The trade body highlighted the significant economic challenges faced by businesses, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has left many commercial establishments in financial distress. Shahdhar argued that an amnesty scheme would serve two primary purposes: providing much-needed relief to businesses and helping the power department generate revenue.

“We demand that the same kind of amnesty must be announced for commercial consumers who have faced financial trouble and were not in a position to pay their bills,” Shahdhar explained. He stressed that such a move would not only support local businesses but also assist the power department in meeting winter energy demands.
