Kishtwar Tragedy: CM Omar announces cancellation of "At Home" tea party tomorrow

Srinagar, Aug 14: The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today announced cancellation of ‘At Home’ tea party and other cultural events tomorrow in view of disastrous cloudburst that struck Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.

He however maintained that formal events including speech, march past etc will take place as planned.

“In light of the tragedy caused by the cloud burst in Kishtwar I have taken the decision to cancel the “At Home” tea party tomorrow evening. We have also decided not to go ahead with the cultural events during the morning Independence Day celebrations. The formal events - speech, march past etc will go ahead as planned,” CM Omar Abdullah said on X.

Notably a massive cloudburst struck a remote mountain village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Thursday, killing over 20 people and trapping many more, officials said.

The dead toll could go up, they said, adding that 98 people have been rescued so far. Of these, the condition of 28 is said to be serious.
