Kishtwar-Anantnag Highway reopens for traffic
Ramban, Apr 3: Kishtwar-Anantnag National Highway, 244, via Sinthan Top was reopened today for traffic after the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd, (NHIDCL) cleared accumulated snow at Sinthantop Pass and other locations.
Kishtwar-Sinthan Road National Highway 244 was closed by the authorities on March 28, due to snow accumulation and avalanche threat.
Sub Divisional Magistrate Chatroo, Kishtwar vide order no No:-SDM/C/2024-25/05-11 No:-03.04.2024 regarding the opening of Kishtwar-Sinthan road stated that following the clearance from NHIDCL, it is hereby ordered that Kishtwar Sinthan National Highway via Sinthan Top shall remain open for commuter's subject to fair weather conditions from Thursday.
The authorities of NHIDCL were asked to continuously monitor the road situation and keep men and machinery ready as and when required. The Plying of vehicles is strictly subject to fair weather conditions.
The opening of Kishtwar Sinthan Road shall be suspended in the event of adverse weather conditions, which may pose a threat to the safety of the commuters and the operational staff.
Timing for commuters going from Kishtwar to Anantnag has been fixed from 10 am to 2 pm (Thursday and Saturday) (To cross Parna Check post-Chingam).
Timing for commuters coming from Anantnag to Kishtwar has been fixed from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm( Friday and Sunday) (To cross Daksum Police Post)
However, from the next week onwards the traffic movement shall ply on both sides subject to fair weather conditions, the order issued by Sub Divisional Magistrate Chatroo, Kishtwar reads.
Earlier on March 28, the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Chhatroo issued a notification restricting traffic movement on the Kishtwar-Sinthan road due to safety concerns.
