Srinagar, Aug 12: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Srinagar of SKUAST-Kashmir today launched the first phase of the Kisan Sampark Abhiyaan – Rural Credit Workshop under the Jammu and Kashmir Competitiveness Improvement of Agriculture and Allied Sectors Project (JKCIP-IFAD) at Darbagh, Harwan.

The workshop aimed to boost the competitiveness and climate resilience of farmers by enhancing production, productivity, and income through a sustainable value chain ecosystem, value addition, and stronger market linkages for high-value niche crops, enabling farmers to compete in national and global markets.

In his inaugural address, Salman Sagar urged the farming community to take full advantage of JKCIP-IFAD and other state and central schemes for socio-economic upliftment and self-reliance. He commended SKUAST-K and its partner departments for “working shoulder to shoulder with farmers at the grassroots to make agriculture a sustainable commercial enterprise.”

Prof. R.H. Kanth highlighted that the workshop reflects SKUAST-K’s commitment to doorstep delivery of technology, improved agricultural practices, and farmer-oriented interventions to drive economic growth.

The event brought together officials from agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, sheep husbandry, and fisheries departments, along with representatives from J&K Bank, RSETI, and NABARD. Over 100 farmers from across Harwan block attended.

Highlights included the e-login registration of the first JKCIP beneficiary from Srinagar district and the distribution of sanction letters for farm machinery under HADP by the Chief Guest, Prof. Kanth, and other dignitaries. The technical session featured a farmer–scientist interface, where KVK experts, including Dr. I.A. Mir, Dr. Saima, Dr. Haseeb, Dr. Showket, and Dr Asima, provided on-the-spot solutions to farmers’ queries.
