King of Bhutan visits Assam
New Delhi, Apr 20: Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, visited Assam on 19 April 2025 to review critical regional infrastructure at the Inland Waterways Terminal (IWT) and the Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Jogighopa.
The King was warmly received by Jayanta Malla Baruah, Assam’s Minister for Public Health Engineering and Housing & Urban Affairs.
The visit highlights the deep-rooted ties between India and Bhutan. It aligns with India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, prioritising connectivity, trade facilitation, and people-to-people engagement with neighbouring countries. The IWT at Jogighopa, inaugurated in February 2025, stands as a major milestone in this effort, aimed at boosting economic development and enhancing regional connectivity. India and Bhutan share a unique and time-tested partnership, marked by mutual trust, understanding, and goodwill.
