Kidney College of Nursing students complain of staff shortage
Srinagar, May 23: The students of Kidney College of Nursing, Zakura, Friday complained about the acute shortage of the staff saying that it was taking a toll on the academics.
A group of 6th-semester BSc Nursing students of Kidney College, affiliated with the University of Kashmir (KU), said that they were compelled to agitate over the shortage of teaching staff as the problem persisted since their last semester.
ìDespite advancing to our final year, the college has still not recruited the qualified faculty members essential for core subjects like Mental Health Nursing, Child Health Nursing,î the students complained to Greater Kashmir.
The students, while referring to the guidelines of the Indian Nursing Council (INC), said these ìvital subjectsî are supposed to be taught by faculty holding an M Sc Nursing degree in the respective specialities.
ìUnfortunately, our repeated appeals to the college administration have gone unheard,î the students said. The students complained that lack of subject specialists from their 5th semester was compromising the integrity of their education and also violates established INC norms.
ìIt directly affects our academic preparation, clinical competency, and future career prospects. These subjects demand professional expertise and hands-on clinical knowledge - something under-qualified or general faculty cannot provide,î the students said.
The students urged the authorities to recruit qualified faculty for their course.
ìWe are suffering immensely due to this negligence. Every student deserves access to quality education as per national standards,î the students said.
Dean College Development Council (DCDC) Kashmir University (KU), Prof Khursheed Ahmad Butt acknowledged the ìgenuine demandî of the students and said they had already received the grievance from the students.
ìWe sought a report from the college management and also called the management to the university and asked them to submit the documents of all the candidates who have applied for the positions,î Prof Butt told Greater Kashmir.
He said the final selection of the faculty for the college was to be done by KU.
ìNAAC visit to KU is expected by the end of this month. After the NAAC visit is over, we will finalise the selection process of the faculty for Kidney College of Nursing,î Butt said.
