Khyber Cement marks Lavender Day with a green message in Srinagar
Srinagar, June 25: Khyber Cement celebrated Lavender Day with a strong message that industrial growth must be aligned with environmental responsibility. The event, held amidst lush lavender fields near its factory, underscored the company’s sustained commitment to eco-friendly practices and community engagement in Kashmir.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of blooming lavender, the celebration brought together students, local residents, and officials in a spirited display of harmony between industry and nature. The Lavender Park—developed and maintained by Khyber Cement—served as a powerful symbol of this synergy, offering not just aesthetic value but also a source of community pride.
Building on the success of last year’s edition, this year’s event was attended by key dignitaries including Abhijeet Joshi, Regional Director, Kashmir, J&K Pollution Control Committee; Hameeda Akhtar, General Manager, District Industries Centre, Srinagar; and Fiaz Ahmad, District Officer, Srinagar, J&K Pollution Control Committee. Senior officials from the Floriculture, Industries, and Pollution Control departments were also present.
Riaz Tramboo, Director of Operations at Khyber Cement, remarked, “At Khyber Cement, our responsibility goes beyond business. Lavender Day is a reflection of our long-term commitment to a green and thriving Kashmir, where industry coexists with nature.”
Umar Tramboo, Director of Corporate & Strategy, echoed the sentiment, stating, “This isn’t just an event—it’s part of our everyday promise to ensure our growth benefits both the environment and the people of Kashmir.”
A major highlight of the day was the live demonstration of the company’s lavender oil extraction programme. Through sustained initiatives such as plantation drives, green belts, and community events like Lavender Day, Khyber Cement continues to advocate for a model of development that balances progress with preservation.
