Srinagar, July 20: Former legislator Khurshid Alam today rejoined the PDP.

In 2021 he had resigned from PDP and had joined People’s Conference (PC). But today he rejoined the PDP. He was welcomed back in the party fold by PDP President Mehbooba Mufti and other senior leaders. Some days back former minister Syed Basharat Bukhari returned to PDP.

In his statement today Kurshid Alam said, “Home is where our feet may leave, but not our hearts. In 2021, I made the decision to join the People’s Conference, seeking new perspectives and experiences. However, over the past few years, it has become increasingly clear to me that the core values and long-term vision I hold align more closely with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”

Alam added that one of the key factors in his decision to return to the PDP is the “unwavering resolve of its president, Mehbooba Mufti.” “Throughout the trying circumstances of recent years, she has faced relentless harassment and unimaginable hardships. Despite being rendered homeless and even enduring the desecration of her father’s grave, she has remained steadfast in her commitment to the people of Kashmir. Mehbooba Mufti continues to speak truth to power, advocating for the rights and well-being of our people, despite knowing the might of the establishment she stands against,”he said.

He added that Mehbooba’s courage and dedication have been a beacon of hope and resilience. “She is the only leader consistently voicing the struggles and hardships faced by the people of Kashmir. History will not absolve us if we, as political leaders, do not stand by her side during these critical times. My return to the PDP is driven by a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to support Mehbooba Mufti in her mission,” Alam said.
