Khrew flash flood: No significant damage, rescue ops on, say officials
Srinagar, Aug 01: As Kashmir witnessed a heavy downpour after a scorching heat wave giving relief to people, an apparent cloudburst caused a flashflood in south Kashmir's Pulwama on Thursday.
The flashflood occurred in the Khrew area of Pulwama, which the authorities said happened when a nearby canal overflowed after an apparent cloud burst, causing hardships to locals and farmers as the excess water started to flow towards the paddy fields.
Naib Tehsildar, Iftikhar Ahmad who was on spot told Greater Kashmir that no casualties have been reported nor any injury to human life. He said that all the emergency services including Fire & Emergency, medical teams, municipality men and people from SDRF were on the spot and draining the water out.
He said that except for a residential house and a school which were inundated by water to some level, no significant damage was observed. He said that no damage was done to these two buildings as well.
While the water has been drained out from the residential area, the mud is still there on the streets, said an official from the SDRF.
