Khanyar residents decry defunct drainage system
Srinagar, Dec 1: Residents of Sumkachbal area of Khanyar in Downtown here have complained of a defunct drainage system in the area saying it causes inconvenience to them.
A delegation from the area said frequent blocking of drains in the area causes problems to them. “Solid wastes from houses and outlets especially poultry and mutton shops block the drains. Due to overflowing of drains, we face problems. The dumping of offal and other organs of livestock also blocks the drains. Besides pungent smell emanating from the drains poses health risks to us,” they said.
“Blockage of drains causes overflow of roads due to which we face problems to venture out of houses. The pungent smell emanating from blocked drains poses a health hazard to us. We took the matter with SMC officials, however no action was taken. We make a fervent appeal to MLA Khanyar Ali Muhammad Sagar to look into the matter and direct the concerned officials to take the required action,” they said.
