Kerala High Court denies anticipatory bail to BJP leader P C George for terming Muslims as terrorists
Srinagar, Feb 22: The Kerala High Court has denied anticipatory bail to BJP leader P C George in a hate speech case.
The court said that he had violated bail conditions of a similar case of 2022. Justice P V Kunhikrishnan observed that if the court grants bail in such cases, it would send out “a wrong message to society”.
The court had directed the seven-time legislator not to make statements that could promote religious enmity in the 2022 case.
However in a TV channel discussion on January 5, George said that all Muslims in India are “terrorists and communalists. Not a single non-terrorist Muslim lives in India.”
He further said that Muslims are looters and “all Muslims are communal demons and scoundrels”.
Subsequently, a police complaint was filed against George. While rejecting the bail, the court held, “If granted bail in this case, people may think that, even if the bail conditions are violated, they will get anticipatory bail from the court of law. Such a message should not go to society”.
