Srinagar, Nov 14: The Kashmir Electrical Equipment Manufacturers Association (KEEMA) has raised concerns over the unchecked registration of new manufacturers without assessing market needs. As Kashmir's industry grows, KEEMA emphasizes the need to align expansion with actual demand to maintain stability.

"Our industrial growth is essential, but if not carefully managed, we risk creating an environment where both new and established manufacturers struggle to survive due to limited demand," said KEEMA spokesperson Mukthar Yousuf.

KEEMA highlights the sector's reliance on government entities like the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL). With more manufacturers entering, there are fears of underutilized facilities, intense competition, and financial difficulties.

To safeguard the industry, KEEMA proposes an Industrial Planning Commission (IPC) to analyze market demand and guide entrepreneurs. The IPC could collaborate with financial institutions and technical colleges to align funding and education with industry needs.

KEEMA advocates a demand-responsive approach to expansion, allowing stakeholders to make informed decisions on growth. The association also urges the government to reform procurement practices to support smaller manufacturers.

"A sustainable industrial strategy requires collaboration between government and industry," said KEEMA President Raja Nayeem Ahmed Khan. "Policies must align with projected demand to foster a resilient, competitive sector."
