KCC&I urges immediate evacuation of J&K students from conflict-hit Iran
Srinagar, Mar 2: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) has strongly urged the Government of India to take urgent and concrete steps to ensure the safe evacuation of students from J&K who are currently stranded in conflict-affected Iran.
In a statement issued here, the Chamber expressed grave concern over the rapidly deteriorating security situation in the Middle East, particularly in Iran, where escalating hostilities have created an atmosphere of instability and fear. The Chamber noted that hundreds of students from Jammu & Kashmir, many of whom are pursuing higher education in medical, paramedical, engineering and other professional courses, are presently residing in different Iranian cities amid rising tensions.
KCC&I said that anxious parents and family members in Kashmir have been reaching out to the Chamber, expressing deep distress over the safety and well-being of their children. The prevailing uncertainty, disruptions in communication, and reports of intensified military activity have further heightened their concerns.
The Chamber stated that parents of the stranded students have made fervent appeals to the Government of India for immediate intervention to ensure the safe return of their wards. In this regard, KCC&I has sought the personal intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to facilitate immediate evacuation measures for the affected students from J&K.
The Chamber emphasized that the safety and security of Indian citizens abroad must remain paramount, especially during periods of international conflict. It urged the Government of India and the Ministry of External Affairs to engage diplomatically with the concerned authorities and initiate a structured and time-bound evacuation plan without delay.
Reiterating its confidence in the Government’s commitment to safeguarding Indian nationals overseas, the Chamber expressed hope that swift and decisive action will be taken to ensure the safe and secure return of all students from the affected region at the earliest.
