KCCI, GJEPC forge new partnerships in Gem and Jewellery sector
Srinagar, July 19: In a significant move to boost Kashmir's gem and jewellery industry, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) and the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council of India (GJEPC) held a pivotal meeting.
The interaction, led by KCCI President Javed Ahmad Tenga and GJEPC Chairman Vipul Shah, focused on fostering collaboration and growth in the sector.
The meeting addressed key areas of mutual interest, including the development of the gem and jewellery sector, skill enhancement initiatives, and increased participation of Kashmir-based jewellers in GJEPC-organized exhibitions and fairs. A highlight of the discussion was the presentation on Kashmir's world-famous Blue Sapphire, sourced from the high-altitude mines of the Bhaderwah-Kishtwar area, showcasing the region's unique gemstone potential.
In a generous gesture, GJEPC offered free exhibition space for Kashmiri jewellers at their events, an offer warmly received by KCCI. This opportunity is expected to significantly boost the visibility and market reach of local artisans and businesses. KCCI announced plans to formulate a comprehensive action plan in consultation with jewellers to maximize the benefits of this cooperation.
GJEPC also presented its national and international activities, highlighting skill development institutes and various precious and semi-precious stones. The council extended scholarships and concessional admissions for various courses across India, aimed at nurturing talent in the industry.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing gratitude and enthusiasm for the partnership. GJEPC Chairman Vipul Shah thanked KCCI for the opportunity, while KCCI President Javed Ahmad Tenga appreciated the multiple offers made by GJEPC.
Other notable attendees included KCCI Senior Vice President Ashaq Shangloo, Secretary General Faiz Bakshi, and Zahoor Ahmad Tramboo, among others.
