Ropeway project: Mehbooba visits Katra, urges LG to review decision
Srinagar, Nov 30: Former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday urged the Lieutenant Governor to review of decision of installing ropeway project in Katra by the shrine board.
Mehbooba said this after meeting Maa Vaishnodevi Devi Sangarsh Samiti and others in Katra who have been protesting against the proposed ropeway to Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Devi shrine.
“Their concern is that this project will adversely impact the livelihoods of thousands of shopkeepers, labourers and others,” said Mehbooba on X.
“It's disturbing to see a growing trend of converting sacred sites into tourist attractions, undermining the true purpose and spiritual significance of pilgrimage,” she said, in a post on X.
She requested the Lieutenant Governor, who heads the Shrine Board, to review this decision promptly and find a solution that balances development with the needs and sentiments of the local community.
