Kathmandu airport reopens after 2 days
New Delhi, Sep 10: Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu has officially reopened after being closed for two days due to escalating unrest in the capital valley, officials said on Wednesday. In a public notice, the TIA Civil Aviation Office confirmed that operations resumed following a meeting of the airport’s security committee.
All domestic and international flights, suspended since September 9, have now been cleared to operate.
Flights are expected to resume gradually through the evening, Nepal media reported. Passengers have been advised to contact their airlines for updated schedules and to reconfirm ticketing and baggage arrangements. Several distress calls were reported from stranded Indian nationals caught in the protest and shutdown. Officials said airlines are now working to clear the backlog of passengers once flights fully resume.
