Kathi Darwaza community hall in shambles
Srinagar, Oct 25: The deteriorating condition of a community hall at Kathi Darwaza, General Bagh, has sparked outrage among local residents who are demanding immediate intervention from the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).
They said despite charging premium rental fees, the facility has fallen into significant disrepair, with multiple issues plaguing its infrastructure. Residents report unsanitary conditions, including leaking commodes, clogged drains, and dusty floors, making it increasingly difficult to host social gatherings and events.
"Unfortunately, SMC has left this community hall in such a dilapidated condition," says Abdul Rashid, a local. "Even basic amenities are not functioning properly."
The situation has particularly affected wedding ceremonies and community functions. Sara Begum, who recently attended a wedding at the venue, expressed dismay at the facility's deplorable condition. "The state of the bathrooms is appalling," she rued. Event organisers are also voicing their concerns about the facility's deterioration. Rafiq Ahmad, who frequently arranges functions at the hall, highlighted both the financial and health implications. "We pay good money but receive substandard facilities in return. This isn't just about comfort—it's a matter of public health," he explained.
The community's frustration is compounded by the SMC's apparent lack of response to their complaints. Residents are now calling for urgent repairs and proper maintenance to restore the hall to acceptable standards.
