Speaking at the inauguration, Bhat lauded the commitment of cocoon growers in keeping alive the centuries-old tradition of sericulture in Kashmir. “These markets are vital platforms where the hard work of our silkworm rearers is rewarded through better economic returns. They not only strengthen rural livelihoods but also add to the state’s economy,” he said.

Bhat underlined that the Srinagar auction serves as a critical bridge between producers and buyers, helping expand market access, promote competition, and secure better prices for farmers. He added that cocoon markets are being held in phases across all districts, ensuring every region gets a chance to showcase its produce.
