Kashmir’s Fardeem Hussain wins triple gold at World Powerlifting Championship
Srinagar, Dec 6: Powerlifter Fardeem Hussain of Srinagar has made history by clinching three gold medals at the 2025 World Powerlifting Championship in Thailand, becoming the first athlete from Jammu and Kashmir to secure a triple-gold haul at an international event of this scale.
Hussain, who led the national contingent as captain of Team India, outperformed competitors from nearly 40 participating nations to claim top honours across multiple categories. The achievement comes a year after he secured three gold medals at another international event, positioning him firmly among India’s top powerlifters on the global stage.
Speaking after the victory, Hussain, as per a statement, said the competition was intense, but he had prepared with a singular goal—to bring home gold for the country. “It was a tough competition, but I had been preparing for a year with the goal of winning gold. I’m now gearing up for upcoming events to continue adding medals to my powerlifting journey,” he said.
He said representing India and leading the squad was a moment of pride and responsibility. “Leading the team internationally is a responsibility I take with pride and discipline. This year is about pushing boundaries, breaking records, and keeping the title home for India,” he added.
Hussain trained rigorously over the past six months, focusing on strength-building, diet and fitness. He credited his coach and mentor, Ishtiyaq Ahmad Khan, for his role in the achievement.
Coach Khan lauded Hussain’s dedication, describing his win as inspirational for young athletes in the Valley. “Fardeem’s participation and victories at the international stage open new doors for aspiring powerlifters in Kashmir. His discipline and preparation are an inspiration. Kashmir now has one of the world’s finest powerlifters,” he said.
Beyond his global success, Hussain continues to hold major national titles, including National Powerlifting Champion, North India Champion, and multiple state and district championships, reinforcing his position as one of the most promising powerlifters in India.
