Srinagar, Oct 9: In a move that’s set to reshape the apple industry landscape, a European horticultural powerhouse has joined forces with a local Kashmir innovator, promising to elevate the Himalayan region to global apple production prominence. This groundbreaking partnership brings world-class expertise to the Valley and signals a new era of agricultural innovation and economic growth for Kashmir’s apple farmers.

Nischler, Europe’s largest apple tree nursery, has entered an exclusive joint venture with Qul, a Kashmir-based innovative horticultural enterprise, to establish a world-class apple plant nursery in Kashmir. The partnership, operating under the brand name ‘Nischler-Qul’, aims to revolutionise the apple-growing landscape not just in Jammu and Kashmir but in the entire Himalayan region, positioning it as a global leader in apple production by 2030.

According to a joint statement released by Nischler and Qul, the venture will focus on transferring cutting-edge European horticultural knowledge, technology, and expertise to develop premium quality apple trees tailored to the unique conditions of the Himalayan region. Commercial production is expected to begin by 2027, offering farmers access to world-class planting material and helping transform the region’s horticultural output.

The collaboration aims to bring the technical expertise and practices used in Europe’s top nurseries to the Himalayan region. This transfer of knowledge and training will ensure that nurseries in the region operate at par with international standards, offering the highest quality of plants to horticultural farmers in the area.
