Sanjay Saraf, a seasoned politician who has contested elections in Kashmir four times, said, “Our community has been in exile for far too long. My goal is not just to win a seat, but to build bridges between communities and create a pathway for Kashmiri Pandits to return home with dignity and security. My goal is also to work for the people of Kashmir, be they Muslims or Hindus. It is high time that the deserving candidates who have a vision about the future know how to generate employment and develop the place be given the mandate. “

“We have seen political promises made and forgotten. The sight of our community members on the ballot brings a glimmer of hope. It’s high time we have representatives who truly understand our struggles and aspirations,” he said.

The candidacy of Kashmiri Pandits extends beyond Habba Kadal.

In Shangus-Anantnag, three Kashmiri Pandit candidates are vying for victory, including M K Yogi of the Apni Party.

Other Kashmiri Pandits in the fray include Sanjay Parva from Beerwah constituency.

Daisy Raina and Arun Kumar Raina are contesting as candidates of the Republic Party of India and NCP from Rajpora in the Pulwama district.

One of the most inspiring stories emerging from this election is that of Daisy Raina, who is contesting from Rajpora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Raina returned to Kashmir five years ago and has since served as a Sarpanch.

“My work speaks for itself,” she said. “The youth support me because they have seen my dedication. I am not just running for office. I am working to create a Kashmir where Pandits can move freely without fear.”

As the election date draws near, the eyes of the people are on these candidates.

Their campaigns carry the weight of a community’s hopes, dreams, and the burning desire to return home.
