Kashmir to have breather from heatwave until June 2

Srinagar, May 30: The Meteorological Department (MeT) Thursday issued a weather forecast indicating that the intense heatwave conditions will persist in the Jammu division for the next seven days while Kashmir is expected to experience slight relief from the hot and dry conditions until June 2.

The MeT official said that the weather in Kashmir will be partly to generally cloudy with light rain and thunder at isolated to scattered places, along with gusty winds at a few locations until May 31.

From June 1 to 2, similar weather conditions are expected with partly to generally cloudy skies, light rain, and thunder at isolated places, accompanied by gusty winds.

From June 3 to 4, dry weather is predicted across the region.

However, from June 5 to 7, the weather is expected to turn generally cloudy again, with light rain and thunder at scattered places.

HEATWAVE ADVISORY

The MeT officials said that the plains of Jammu division will not see any respite from the ongoing heatwave and hot and dry weather conditions over the next seven days.

Slight relief from the heatwave and hot and dry conditions is anticipated in most parts of Kashmir and a few hilly areas of Jammu division until June 2.

Another spell of heatwave is expected to affect Kashmir from June 3 to 4.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES

The residents have been advised to avoid heat exposure between 12 noon and 3 pm.

The advisory said that it is crucial to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids and water, especially for vulnerable individuals like the elderly, infants, and children.

MINIMUM TEMPERATURES

Srinagar recorded a low of 13.8 degrees Celsius, which is 1.8 degrees Celsius above the normal for this time of the year.

Qazigund recorded the minimum temperature of 12.4 degrees Celsius, 1.7 degrees Celsius above normal

Pahalgam recorded a low of 9.7 degrees Celsius, 3.6 degrees Celsius above normal.

Kokernag recorded a minimum of 10.8 degrees Celsius, slightly above normal by 0.2 degrees Celsius.

Kupwara recorded a minimum of 10.2 degrees Celsius, which is below normal by 0.4 degrees Celsius.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 6.5 degrees Celsius, below normal by 0.6 degrees Celsius.

Jammu recorded a low of 32.4 degrees Celsius, significantly above normal by 7.5 degrees Celsius.

Banihal recorded a low of 15.8 degrees Celsius.

Batote recorded a minimum of 18.6 degrees Celsius.

Bhaderwah recorded a low of 15.1 degrees Celsius.

The ongoing heat wave has significantly impacted daily life, with temperatures soaring above normal levels in many areas.

The MeT urged the residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure safety and well-being during these challenging weather conditions.
