Kashmir shivers at night, warms up by day
Srinagar, Jan 15: Amid a spell of dry weather, Kashmir is experiencing warmer days and colder nights while the valley is currently undergoing a noticeable contrast in temperature patterns.
The Meteorological Department (MeT) officials said that daytime temperatures had been on the rise, bringing a sense of warmth to Kashmir.
They said, conversely the nights in Kashmir are chillier.
The MeT attributes this unusual weather condition to the prevailing dry weather in Kashmir.
As the dry spell persists, the temperature variations between day and night are expected to continue. The weatherman has ruled out significant weather activity until January 24 despite the presence of two faint Western Disturbances (WDs) this week.
Dry weather is expected to persist until January 24 with faint WDs approaching on January 16 and 20 evening.
The MeT officials anticipate generally cloudy weather with light rain and snow over isolated middle and higher reaches during January 16 and January 20 nights under the influence of these WDs.
However, no significant weather activity is expected until January 24.
The MeT officials said that dense fog with cold day conditions is anticipated to continue until January 16 over the plains of Jammu region.
They said that freezing conditions persist during the night in various parts of J&K with Srinagar registering a low of minus 4.3 degrees Celsius on Monday.
Officials said that the temperature in Srinagar was one notch below the previous night’s minus 4.2 degrees Celsius and 2.2 degrees Celsius below the normal range.
Gulmarg ski resort in Baramulla district recorded a low of minus 2.8 degrees Celsius, showing a notable increase from the previous night's minus 1.2 degrees Celsius, with the temperature standing 5.1 degrees Celsius above normal.
Pahalgam health resort in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 5.6 degrees Celsius against minus 5.5 degrees Celsius the previous night, remaining 1.5 degrees Celsius above normal.
Kokernag health resort of Anantnag recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2 degrees Celsius against minus 2.2 degrees Celsius the previous night, marking a 1.6 degrees Celsius above normal reading for the location.
Qazigund witnessed a minimum of minus 4.2 degrees Celsius compared to the previous night's minus 3 degrees Celsius with the temperature standing 2.2 degrees Celsius below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
North Kashmir's Kupwara town recorded a low of minus 4.1 degrees Celsius, slightly lower than the previous night’s minus 4 degrees Celsius, and 1.1 degrees Celsius below normal.
In Jammu, the minimum temperature was recorded at 3 degrees Celsius, compared to 2.5 degrees Celsius the previous night, marking a deviation of 4 degrees Celsius below normal.Other temperature readings include minus 0.8 degrees Celsius for Banihal, 3.8 degrees Celsius for Batote, and 1.3 degrees Celsius for Bhaderwah.
