Kashmir records below-normal temperatures after continuous rain showers

Srinagar, Apr 21:  Kashmir witnessed below-normal temperatures on Sunday following continuous rain showers over the past 24 hours.

The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar said that various parts of Kashmir received moderate rainfall, with Srinagar receiving 3 mm, Qazigund 2 mm, Pahalgam 1.7 mm, Kupwara 8.2 mm, Kokernag 1 mm, and Gulmarg 9.4 mm during this period.

Reports of gusty winds and hailstorms were also received from several parts of south Kashmir, adding to the weather-related disruptions.

The Meteorological Department has forecast generally dry weather till April 25, with the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms and hailstorm activity at isolated places.

However, the weather is expected to change after April 25, with generally cloudy skies and light to moderate rain or snowfall (light snow over higher reaches) and thunderstorms predicted at most places during April 26 to April 28.

There is also a possibility of light rain in many places on April 29 and 30.

In light of the weather forecast, the MeT office has advised farmers to resume farm operations.

The daytime temperatures in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir were recorded as 2 to 4 degrees Celsius below normal, with the maximum temperature in Srinagar reaching 19.3 degrees Celsius, 1.8 degrees Celsius below the normal for the previous day.

The minimum temperatures recorded during Saturday night were also below normal, with Srinagar at 8.4 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam at 2.9 degrees Celsius, Kupwara at 6.5 degrees Celsius, and Gulmarg at 0 degrees Celsius.
