Srinagar, Apr 8: The Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla marked its presence at the 15th edition of HAIRCON, an annual conference hosted by the Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons of India (AHRS) in collaboration with the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS).

Held from April 4 to April 6, 2025, at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), Srinagar, the conference witnessed participation from over 350 delegates, including an array of national and international experts in the field of hair restoration surgery.

As per a handout issued here, the conference was spearheaded by Organising Chairperson Dr. Aman Dua and Organising Secretary Prof Syed Mubashir from the Department of Dermatology, GMC Baramulla. The event was patronised by Prof Iffat Hassan Shah and Prof Sheikh Manzoor.

The international faculty included renowned names such as Dr Knudsen Russell from Australia (Past President of IHRS), Dr Otavio from Brazil, Dr Chinmanat and Dr Kulkaran from Thailand, Dr Zontos from Denmark, and Dr Maxim Chumak from the USA, bringing a wealth of global expertise to Kashmir.

The conference was formally inaugurated by the chief guest Prof Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal and Dean GMC Srinagar, alongside Prof Majid Jehangir, Principal GMC Baramulla, and Prof Rukhsana Najeeb, Principal GMC Anantnag.

Assistant Professor at GMC Anantnag, Dr Ummer Yaseen served as the Scientific Coordinator, while Assistant Professor GMC Baramulla, Dr Peerzada Sajad played a key role as the Organising Coordinator.

The academic itinerary of the conference featured an array of meticulously structured scientific sessions.

Departments of Dermatology from GMC Baramulla, GMC Anantnag, GMC Srinagar, SKIMS Medical College, and several other medical colleges presented research papers and posters, showcasing the academic strength and research focus of participating institutions.

One of the highlights of the event was the All India Postgraduate Quiz, conducted at a national level. Four teams – GMC Patiala, MIMSR Latur (Maharashtra), SSKM Kolkata, and GMC Calicut—qualified for the final round held during the conference.

The team from GMC Calicut emerged victorious.

The event also hosted a significant session on ‘Anti-Quackery,’ underlining ethical practices in the domain of dermatology and hair restoration.

Eminent speakers included President of AHRS Dr Mayank Singh; Vice President of the Indian Association of Dermatologists Dr Akshay Jain; Vice President of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India Dr Aditya Agarwal; and President of the Association of Cutaneous Surgeons of India Dr Swapnil Shah.

The inaugural session featured a welcome address by Dr Aman Dua, followed by two orations delivered by Dr Knudsen and Dr Anil Garg.

The 15th HAIRCON not only fostered academic dialogue and collaboration but also spotlighted Kashmir as a host to international-level medical conferences, bringing together some of the best minds in the field under one roof.
