Kashmir Eye Hospital celebrates World Sight Day
Srinagar, Oct 9: To combat preventable blindness, the Kashmir Eye Hospitals (KEH) network has launched a series of visionary initiatives across the Valley to mark World Sight Day.
A statement of KEH issued here said that from free consultations to advanced surgical care for underprivileged children, the campaign signals a major leap in accessible and affordable eye health for all.
Marking the global observance, KEH announced free OPD slots across its network, ensuring that no patient is denied consultation due to financial constraints.
“No one should be denied consultation because of cost. Eye care is not a privilege, it’s a right,” the KEH statement said.
Adding to the momentum, KEH unveiled a new clinic, Gold Opticals , at Chadoora, aimed at bringing premium optical and diagnostic care closer to the community.
The KEH also announced free surgical care and implantation of premium, international-quality intraocular lenses (IOLs) for deserving and underprivileged children diagnosed with congenital cataract.
“This is not just a hospital initiative, it’s a public awakening,” the KEH statement said. “We’re calling on every Kashmiri to prioritise eye health. Because blindness doesn’t wait, and neither should we.”
Recognising the growing concern of diabetic eye diseases, KEH launched a special registration card named ‘Sightsaver Card’ to manage Diabetic Retinopathy.
The card offers patients subsidised intra-retinal injections and surgeries, making long-term care more accessible and affordable.
Raising the bar for ophthalmic diagnostics and treatment, KEH introduced a suite of state-of-the-art technologies, including Alcon Constellation Advanced Vitrectomy System, Topcon Anterior Segment Imaging System, Topcon Phoropter, Zeiss IOL Master 700, Zeiss Visual Field Analyser, and Zeiss Fundus Angiography System.
Officials said these additions would “set new benchmarks in precision, safety, and outcomes for eye surgeries and diagnostic care across Jammu and Kashmir.”
The KEH hosted a special event for pediatric patients who had undergone successful eye surgeries under the care of Dr Adil.
The event, marked by laughter and learning, saw children participating in creative games and activities before receiving prizes and gifts from KEH staff.
“Every child who regains sight regains a world of possibility,” Dr Adil said. “The celebration symbolised not only clinical success but also emotional healing and community connection.”
The Directors of KEH reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to offering comprehensive eye care under one roof.
“KEH is now the only hospital in Jammu and Kashmir to offer the full spectrum of ophthalmic super-specialties,” they said. “From Retina to Cornea, Glaucoma to Pediatric Ophthalmology, Oculoplasty to Neuro-ophthalmology, we’re not just building a hospital. We’re building a legacy.”
