Kashmir diagnostic centres seek Govt-notified uniform rate list for medical tests

Srinagar, Nov 17: The Kashmir Private Diagnostic Centres Association J&K has expressed concern over the absence of a government-issued price list for medical investigations across the Union Territory, urging the Health & Medical Education Department to frame and notify a uniform rate structure without further delay.

Rouf Rangraze, President of the Association, said the Health & Medical Education Department is the competent authority to issue a standardised rate list, yet no such guidelines have been introduced. The lack of regulation, he said, has led to discrepancies in diagnostic charges and created confusion among patients.

Rangraze noted that in the absence of an approved government rate list, diagnostic centres are left to adopt their own pricing systems, resulting in non-uniform rates that place an additional burden on patients, particularly those from economically weaker backgrounds.

“Patients have no reference point to compare or question charges. This leads to mistrust, financial stress, and unregulated pricing,” he said.

The Association said a government-notified price list would enhance transparency, ensure affordability, and bring greater accountability to the healthcare system. “Once the Government issues a uniform rate list, overcharging will end and the prevailing confusion will finally be resolved,” Rangraze added.

He appealed to Health Minister Sakina Masood Itoo to intervene and direct the concerned authorities to prepare a comprehensive and transparent rate list for all medical investigations under the Health & Medical Education Department.

The Association said such a measure would offer significant relief to the public while ensuring diagnostic centres function within a fair, regulated framework.
