In a press release, Ahmed lauded the efforts of officials for deploying personnel and machinery despite challenging weather conditions and difficult terrain. “We appreciate the authorities for acting decisively and ensuring that the lifeline connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country was restored in record time,” he said.

At the same time, Ahmed highlighted additional measures needed to provide relief to stakeholders, particularly growers, who have borne the brunt of transport disruptions. He urged the administration to consider suggestions previously submitted by the Chamber aimed at facilitating smoother logistics, timely movement of perishable produce, and mitigating losses for farmers.

“The horticulture sector is the backbone of Kashmir’s rural economy, sustaining thousands of families. While the reopening of the highway is a welcome step, we must continue working on measures that protect growers’ interests and ensure minimal disruption to the supply chain during emergencies,” Ahmed said.
