Kashmir boy from remote Kupwara village scores big in JEE Mains without private coaching

In all his life, Sahil has visited Srinagar city only once when he had to appear in JEE exams.

Baramulla, Feb 12: Hailing from a remote village in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, Sahil Ahmad Bhat has scored 99.229 percentile in the JEE Mains exam, the result of which was declared on Tuesday.

A resident of Rashanpora in the Kralpora area of Kupwara , Sahil has scored the highest percentile without any private coaching.

He belongs to a poor family and his father works as a labourer. Sahil completed his education from a government school from kindergarten to class 12th.

"He could not afford schooling at a private school. Private coaching in Srinagar was a distant dream for him given the financial condition of his family," Asif Maqbool, cousin of Sahil told Greater Kashmir.

“He studied in government schools of district Kupwara and cracked the JEE mains exam with a high percentile in his first attempt with the help of some online sources," Asif said.

On Tuesday the whole family turned into celebration mode as soon as they came to know about Sahil's achievement in the national level competitive exam.

"Rashanpora is the remotest village where we do not have proper transport facilities available," Asif said.

In all his life, Sahil has visited Srinagar city only once when he had to appear in JEE exams.

"It was his first visit to Srinagar city along with his father on exam day. But he has proved that his dedication and hard work paid him," Asif said.

Meanwhile, Chairman Private School Association J&K (PSAJK) G N Var congratulated Sahil for his extraordinary performance.

"99.23 percentile without expensive schooling and regular coaching is a great inspiration for our students facing the brunt of adverse circumstances," Var said.
