Karnataka CEO seeks proof from Rahul Gandhi on voter fraud allegations
New Delhi, Aug 10: The Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer has issued a formal notice to Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, directing him to provide documentary evidence to support his allegations of large-scale voter fraud in the 2024 general elections, reports The Hindustan Times and several national media houses.
The notice follows Gandhi’s claims that over one lakh votes in Mahadevapura constituency were fraudulently registered through duplicate entries, fake addresses and bulk registrations.
The CEO’s preliminary inquiry found no evidence to support a specific case Gandhi cited of a voter casting multiple ballots. This is the second such notice issued to Gandhi in recent days, with the earlier one seeking an affidavit on his allegations. The state Congress, led by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, has also lodged complaints with the CEO, while the Siddaramaiah government has ordered a legal review of the charges. The BJP has dismissed the accusations and demanded an apology from Gandhi.
