Kupwara, Jul 6: The Shia Community Wednesday took out Muharram procession in border town Karnah in north Kashmir's Kupwara district which began from Imam Bargah Gundi Syedan and concluded at Chamkote, drawing hundreds of mourners from across the region.

The local administration, along with community volunteers, ensured smooth conduct of the event. Security personnel, medical teams, and drinking water stations were stationed throughout the route to assist participants.

Local Shia leaders hailed the efforts of administration for keeping all the arrangements intact.

An official said that the procession ended peacefully. "We had made all arrangements besides prominent security measures had been put in place” he added.

Moulana Syed Waqar Hussain Qazmi a local Shia cleric appreciated the arrangements made by administration through out the route. He said that even Sunni people came forward and remained present with them in the procession which presented a beautiful example of communal harmony.

"I believe we all are one so we should hold the rope of unity for the betterment of Muslim Ummah," he added.
