The initiative is designed to empower master artisans to lead skill-upgradation programmes, revitalise crafts on the verge of decline, and create sustainable livelihoods in the craft sector.

A spokesperson for the department said the scheme offers institutional support, advanced training, and financial assistance to facilitate the transfer of traditional knowledge. It aims to enhance skills, improve wages, and strengthen market linkages through entrepreneurship.

“Special consideration will be given to master artisans who have demonstrated excellence in their craft,” the spokesperson said, emphasising their potential to mentor emerging talent and drive revival efforts. “Selected Karkhandars will receive comprehensive support, including a monthly honorarium of Rs 2,000 per trainee (for up to 10 trainees per Karkhana), and a lump sum of Rs 25,000 per batch for logistical support.”

Trainees under the scheme will also benefit from monthly stipends of Rs 2,000, disbursed in instalments upon successful completion of their probationary training.

Since its inception, the scheme has sanctioned 80 units, empowering artisans to preserve Kashmir’s rich heritage while creating economic opportunities. Awardee artisans, particularly meritorious ex-trainees, are encouraged to apply online. Applications should include a completed form, affidavit, self-attested copies of Aadhaar, qualification proofs, prior training certificates, and a passport-size photograph.
