New Delhi, Jul 10: Comedian Kapil Sharma's newly launched cafe in Surrey, British Columbia, came under attack after a gunman fired at least nine rounds at the establishment. The incident occurred late on Wednesday night (local time), days after the soft launch of the cafe, named Kap's Café, as reported by NDTV and other national media. No injuries were reported.

The attack has been linked to Khalistani terrorist Harjit Singh Laddi, who has reportedly claimed responsibility. Laddi is associated with the Babbar Khalsa International and is on the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) list of most wanted individuals. He is also accused of involvement in the April 2024 killing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Vikas Prabhakar in Punjab.

The attack comes amid longstanding concerns raised by New Delhi about the presence and activities of Khalistani extremists in Canada. Last month, Canada’s intelligence agency confirmed that such elements continue to use the country as a base for promoting, fundraising, and planning acts of violence, particularly targeting India. India-Canada relations, which deteriorated in 2023 following accusations against Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani figure Hardeep Singh Nijjar, have shown signs of recovery under Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s leadership.
