Kangan bridge faces structural snag, traffic hit
Kangan, Nov 13: The traffic movement on the vital Srinagar-Leh National Highway was partially disrupted for the second consecutive day after a bridge near the Kichpara area of Kangan developed a structural snag on Wednesday.
Locals said that the bridge on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway near Kangan developed a structural snag after a portion of the bridge started sliding downwards, raising concern among the public.
They said that the issue was immediately brought to the notice of the administration. Soon after being informed, a team of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and civil and Police administration officials visited the spot and initiated immediate necessary measures.
The officials blocked one side of the bridge for traffic as a precautionary measure and to avoid any untoward incident.
An official said that proper work would commence soon after getting technical suggestions from the experts.
They said that the 122 RCC of BRO’s Project Beacon has started work under the bridge to make a temporary support embankment and pillars till permanent measures are taken.
Besides, the BRO has made an alternative temporary road for the passage of heavy vehicles plying on the highway.
The locals have demanded an investigation be conducted as to why this vital bridge that connects Srinagar with Ganderbal district and to Ladakh had gotten damaged.
