Kangan areas face erratic power supply

The people in Kangan sub division of Ganderbal district are up in arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) for failing to provide them with uninterrupted power supply.

Locals alleged that despite having the three power projects, Ganderbal is seeing the worst power scenario, adding that power woes have become a major concern for them especially with the onset of the winter.

Reports from different areas of Ganderbal including major towns Ganderbal, Lar, Kangan, Tulmulla, Gund and other areas said that the unscheduled power cuts have grown severe giving tough time to people, especially during evening hours. The people of tehsil Gund in Ganderbal district have shown strong resentment against authorities for not augmenting the capacity of Surfraw power station resulting in power cuts and irregular power supply to the consumers. The residents said that since a long time the people were continuously suffering as the power station has not been upgraded yet. At present, Receiving Station Surfraw does not fulfill the needs of people and during the time of overloading people are forced to resort to power cuts. They said that it needs to be upgraded so that people can have regular power supply. The consumers have urged the authorities to upgrade the receiving station Surfraw.
